Hello everyone! I am not Samantha, I am Xin Hui!
We’re experimenting
guest blogging so I will be blogging about our bangkok trip on Sam’s blog and she has written one for my blog.
I’ll link my blog at
the bottom of the post so you can visit it if you want :)
This was such an impromptu trip. I just asked
Samantha to ask her parents whether they would allow her to travel overseas
with me. I didn’t carry much hopes
since Sam told me her parents were quite strict, but they did!! So we decided
to head to Bangkok. I’ve been to Bangkok 8
times before, and I was sick of the excessive shopping. I know Bangkok has lots
more to offer, so we decided that shopping should not take the centre attention
of our trip.
DAY ONE
Our flight was delayed by an hour, and adding up
all the other delays, we only managed to reach our hotel in the early evening.
I was quite frustrated because I felt like one whole day was wasted, but we
made the most of the night by shopping a little at Siam area and heading to our
top cafe choice, After You. BUT WE SAW SO MANY RATS ON THE WAY TO AFTER YOU. I
am terrified of rats. And the rats in Bangkok were so so big, at least 20cm in
length and so fat. The first time we saw Mr Rat, I saw it first and I just
halted in my steps. I wanted to scream and warn sam (she was talking
incessantly next to me) but NO SOUND CAME OUT OF MY THROAT. Omg, then sam saw
it about 2 seconds later and we ran like crazy. I was screaming like a mad
woman and my heart almost stopped. Gosh, I hate rats. Was the dessert at After
You worth it?
YES!!!! Just look at that photo!! The toast was
fragrant, and the balance between sweet and savoury was amazing. Sam was a bit
generous on the maple syrup (cause I waned to record it for my vlog), but I
loved it anyway.
DAY TWO
(haha I forgot what we did on day 2, so I went
to check my vlog) We went to Chatuchak Market!!! It was Sam’s first time there and her ultimate mission
was to find THE coconut ice cream. The shopping was fantastic. I had lots of
great buys and we ate a lot of food like quail eggs, garlic bread etc. The sun
was hot and burning our heads, and Sam had a bad headache. I was quite worried
for her and I tried to help by asking her to drink more water, making her happy
and shutting up so I don’t
annoy her even further.
We headed to Lumpini Park after that. We rode
this duck boat and walked around. The duck boat was really fun and I have so
much to share about it. Firstly, Sam crushed my big toe. My foot was near the top
of the pedal and then, she started cycling furiously and my big toe was caught
in between and it FREAKING HURTS. There is still a blueblack in my toenail, and
it hurts when I wear shoes :( But I will forgive Sam because 1. She’s my best friend 2.She didn’t intentionally hurt me 3. She risked her
life to help me take this photo hehe.
Number 3 is the most important reason. I wanted
to get a really nice shot of me on the boat (inspiration from @dreachong) and
so, Sam sacrificed by getting off the boat and standing on this muddy and
unstable ledge to help me get a few shots. Even though I wasn’t satisfied with any of the shots (whoops),
I appreciated her so much that I STILL POSTED IT ON MY BELOVED INSTAGRAM.
HAHAH. We then went to Platinum Mall to shop a little and have dinner there.
Lastly, we did a best friend tag video!! We jumped a bit late on this tag
bandwagon, but I loved the video so much. It makes me treasure this lil gem so
much more. I realised I don’t
really know her very well, but I still love her so so much :)
DAY THREE
We woke up really early to visit Pratunam
Morning Market. It was Sam’s
first time too and the shopping was not too bad. It was definitely the cheapest
shopping throughout the whole trip. Then we went to Madame Tussauds Museum and
Siam Ocean World. The tickets costs a bomb, but I was fine with it since I
wanted more interesting footage for my vlog. The creature that fascinated us
the most was this giant octopus.
But I felt quite sad for this invertebrate. It
was trapped in this small enclosure and it must feel lonely being all alone :(
Oh well…
Here’s
sam acting very tumblrish and I took this amazing photo :))
Finally, ending this with a photo of us:
The Madame Tussauds Museum was very interactive
and we had a lot of fun there too. Sam was my appointed photographer (who else)
and I really am very thankful to her for not complaining HAHA.
Here’s
your favourite blogger and Madonna in a million dollar shot. (Gen, Charis, Su
Lynn, if y’all are reading, I
better be your fav blogger and not sam ah. warning y’all HAHHAH)
We had lunch at Hungry Nerd Cafe and the food
was not nice :( Very average and a waste of our money. Went back to Platinum
Mall for more shopping and dinner at Inter. OMG the food at Inter was so
amazing. The Tom Yan Goong and Pad Thai we ordered were the best I ever tasted.
They don’t charge service
charge but TIPPING IS GREATLY APPRECIATED HAHHAH it was hilarious because this waitress came to
sam when sam was footing the bill, saying “some tip?”. But Sam couldn’t understand her accent and just went huh?
huh? huh? So the woman gave up and said never mind. I couldn’t understand what was going on at first,
but figured it out later on. We kept laughing about it and it remains as one of
the best moments of the trip. AND RIGHT. I PAID FOR THIS DINNER OK. Because I
had this ridiculous competition with Sam. There were songs playing over the
speakers in Platinum Mall and we had to name the song playing and the singer of
the song. The first to get 3 answers win and Sam won…. ARGH. HHAHAH. We just walked around Siam Area (again) after
dinner.
DAY FOUR
My favourite day of the whole trip because we
went to a theme park!!!!!!!! I really wanted to visit a theme park and Sam kindly
accommodated me even though she was scared of theme parks. We chose to visit
Siam Park City over the popular DreamWorld and I am not regretting that
decision. Never in my life have I had so much fun riding all the scary
rollercoasters. My favourite ride was the Boomerang. It is a roller coaster
that went through two 360degree turns and went backwards as well!!! I enjoyed
the Log Flume (check my vlog to see whats that) as well :) CONFESSION : I WAS
AFRAID OF SAM FOR THE WHOLE FIRST HALF OF THE THEME PARK TRIP. I don’t know if she was tired, scared or sick, but
she was so quiet, and I was starting to feel a little moody as well. I felt
helpless but I didn’t want to ruin our
trip so I just acted damn happy and excited for all the rides. But things got
better after the Log Flume, and the rest of the trip went pretty damn well. I
am an adrenaline junkie and I love taking all the scary rides. But I don’t really dare to take it alone. I know that
Sam is afraid of scary rides and I somehow feel she went on 99% of all the
scary rides with me because she didn’t
want me to take it alone. So to the thoughtful soul, I owe you one and I love
you very much.
We had dinner at Caturday which is a cat cafe
just across our hotel. I love cats but I felt all the cats were being arrogant
as shit, refusing to take photos with us. HAHAH, but they were still cute and
all and just look at this beauty!!! We called this the Taylor Swift Cat.
The pasta at the cafe was nothing to rave about, but this Thai Milk Tea Crepe blew me away. The Thai Milk tea
taste was strong yet not overpowering. It blended well with the cream and the
texture of the cake was smooth.
I didn’t
have any money at this point in time but Sam had quite a bit left since she
didn’t shop as much as me
the past few days. I had 2 decisions at that point. One was to just hit the gym
in the hotel, or I could accompany Sam to Siam Square to shop with her. AND AS
ALL OF YOU KNOW, I AM A KIND SOUL so I followed her to Siam Square. AND GOD
BLESSES KIND PEOPLE because there was great shopping that night!!! I am not
sure how many of you know this, but Siam square is a really big area, with
proper stores and buildings, but the shopping both of us really wanted was from
the roadside stalls that opens most nights. THAT SHOPPING only appeared on the
last night! So I figured out that It doesn’t open on weekends and monday night. I went to change $50 more
Singapore Dollars into Thai Baht (the currency rate was so bad, don’t even talk about it) and shopped.
DAY FIVE
The day we flew home!! Woke up super early like
4am and reached the airport and like 5am?? We just lazed around at Starbucks
waiting for flight back home. There’s
nothing much to write at this point, so yeah HAHA
To Sam ehehe : This trip is the ultimate Bangkok
trip of my life because you were the best company!! I learnt so much more about
you and got a lot closer to you as well. I have never thought we would be this
close but ever since we started studying in the same uni, I felt we spent a lot
more time together. Sorry if I ever pissed you off (I don’t think I did right) and Thank you for
being this complete awesome travel partner. You are kind, thoughtful, fun, easy
going and interesting ;) HAHHA. I say this so much (even though you never
appreciate it :( ) but I’ll
just say it again because cool kids are never afraid to show their love. I love
you and thank you for this amazing trip. I will look forward to the next
#teamsxadventures we have together (hopefully vietnam at end 2015) and
meanwhile, let’s stay as close as
hell and remain the bestest of friends. You are a treasure in my life and I
thank God for you. I hope you recover from your illness soon and I’ll see you very soon :)
Alright! I’ll just end here :) Do tell sam if you want me to come over and blog
more often!! (I know y’all
like this post a lot because I am writing it ;) ) Bye everyone and have a great
day! :)
