NUS Modules (Year 1 Sem 1)

PL1101E (Introduction to Psychology)
I had to take this mod as a prerequisite to major in psych. I read reviews of this mod saying that the lectures and tutorials are useless and that is...... true. But tutorials are interesting and a good place to make friends, so I wouldn't call the time totally wasted. This mod is basically reading the textbook and memorising the content. Warning: there is A LOT of content. I didn't do consistent reading so I died lol. Exams consist of MCQs and short-answer questions and they are closed book.

SC1101E (Making Sense of Society)
I have very mixed feelings about this mod... I hated tutorials because I felt so stupid when I didn't know how to answer the questions that the tutor asked while the other students were rattling off complicated-sounding theories and concepts. But the thing is, I scored As in all my assignments, don't ask me how.... but overall I still got a B-?! I think it's because of this ONE question in the finals, which I answered completely out of point because I didn't understand the question correctly. I probably got 0 for it :( I guess the content taught in this mod is easy to understand and the different topics overlap a lot. Assessment consists of a few take-home essay assignments, midterms (1 essay in 1 hour) and finals (2 essays in 2 hours)

SN1101E (South Asia: People, Culture, Development)
This was the worst mod I took last sem. It is interesting, no doubt, but I did badly in it because I completely neglected it. There are lots of names of famous people in Indian history to memorise and I just couldn't be bothered haha. So I just crapped my way through the essays and short notes and guessed the midterm MCQ answers. There was also a group presentation and I think my group's presentation was really disorganised... but that's no surprise because we didn't even meet up as a group once before the actual presentation HAH such a joke. Needless to say I did badly (C+) and S/U-ed this mod.

Visited Al-Amin mosque with Nick for the project!

EL1101E (The Nature of Language)
This mod is so easy that the bell curve is pretty steep. I was so thankful for my english background because I could rely mainly on intuition. The first few lectures were challenging for me because I didn't really understand the module and also I found phonology quite difficult. But once we got into morphology and syntax, it became easier. I liked the lecturer Dr. Rebecca Starr so attending lectures was not boring or a chore, and she made the content easy to understand. The exams consist of MCQs which are really easy and there is a group project which was quite difficult to me and I did badly in :(

LSM1301 (General Biology)
I took this mod because it's a prerequisite for taking Food and Health (which I am super interested in) but it turned out to be the most interesting mod I took, I loved the lab sessions, you might have seen one of the many snapchats I sent from the lab haha. The content was completely new to me though, and I found it quite bewildering at times, but at least the exam was open book and MCQ. (They have to make it easier because this mod is only for people with no bio background)

Anyway I really hope I get at least 1 A this sem *crosses fingers and studies as though finals are next week*

xx.
